Keeping myself centred

After being really beat up by my thesis revisions over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been keeping myself centred by doing the little things that make my happy. I know what you’re thinking; no, it’s not a post about Drupal.

Now that the sun is out, the weather is warm, and the flowers are growing, I’ve picked up my camera and gone shooting a few times. It’s very relaxing to look at things 10 mega pixels at a time. The thing about Brampton is that there aren’t very many places I can go shooting. Anytime I’m down in Guelph I’ll take my camera with me and take some shots on campus. I attended a Guelph Storm game for the first time. I took my camera with me just to take some picture. I was told picture taking is not allowed. That was a bit of a bummer. Now it’s not so much about getting on explore, it’s more about taking pictures I think are great. If no one else likes them, too bad.

Lockin' Chain

This Thesis is Getting on my Last Nerve!

*Read at your own risk!*

I've honestly had enough of this damn thing. I've been working on it for so long and working so hard and it seems like it's never ending. I know I was told not to take the revision too personally, but I keep thinking to myself, "Why the hell weren't any of these issue caught 6 months ago?"

Late Night Thesis

That said, I'll go into a bit more detail about why I'm so upset. For those of you reading this blog for the first time, you should know that I've been doing this thing for a long time. I wasted a good deal of time wondering what my thesis topic should be and not knowing how really to get started. Then wasted more time writing some research papers hoping to get a publication. We all know what a disaster that turned out to be.

Snowy Day in Brampton

Snowy Intersection

I went out shooting today simply because I thought there would be some cool stuff to shoot. I got pictures of mostly snow and people driving in snow.

It was really cold today. I shoveled the driveway, and there was actually snow hanging off my facial hair. I'm not looking forward to tomorrow morning.

Computer Science Major Rebounds

http://www.insidehighered.com/news/2008/03/05/compsci

A very interesting article on how there's a rebound in computer science majors.. But not by very much. The article shows:

Fall 2005 -> 7,952
Fall 2006 -> 7,840
Fall 2007 -> 7,915

So is it on the rise? That still remains to be scene. But I'll go out on a limb here and say that it actually isn't increasing. I'm only saying that because of the other issues that are beginning to crop up in the process of scouting and hiring potential candidates for a job.

Experience is beginning to be a factor. You can go through a CS degree and do co-op, but there are still many people that don't get jobs because they lack experience. They may not get a job in their first and second runs at co-op. Their hopes of getting a job in the final runs at co-op are slim. Most give up, some even change majors.
